Yep they are the same. Angus, Black Angus are the dominant breed from which the Red Angus was developed from. I really don't think their is much difference between any of the English breeds as far as taste is concerned. Herefords are very popular in this area (Texas) but the black face breed have fewer health problems than white face cattle who suffer from pink-eye which can lead to cancer. Which is very nasty and almost impossible to cure. Angus beef is a bit of a marketing ploy but you do get what you fay for and if you pay for cheep beef that's what you are going to get.
